Bracing for Impact

“Mom! The dog just got out!” “Our biggest client just called, they are upset about the latest changes and want to set up a meeting.” “I forgot to pick up the dry cleaning.” “Latest polls show that the upcoming election will be filled with turmoil.”  “Temperatures are soaring and storms are brewing across the nation.” “Another report of gun violence.”

I brace for impact every day. Every day.

I never realized that I was. I just knew that how I felt wasn’t good. Oddly enough, when I brace for impact, I hold my breath.

Unconsciously, without even realizing it,

hold

my

breath.

Sometimes for short periods, sometimes longer ones. You may find that you have also done just that. Each time you hold your breath, your muscles need to work harder and the stresses you are facing begin to hinder your immune system which chips away at your physical and psychological functions. Basically, it is just not good for you to hold your breath when you are stressed.

So what’s a person to do? Believe it or not, you have already taken the first step in recognizing that your breathing is impacted by your stressors. You have become mindful. It sounds so easy doesn’t it? But we all know that it takes more than just being aware that you hold your breath to create change. One step you can take is to engage in breathwork sessions that help to give you the tools you will need to change the way you breathe. Breathwork will allow your breathing to become purposeful, relaxed and trouble-free.

Open your mind to one of the simplest and neglected processes available to all humans. Breathing. Come breathe with us.  Let’s slow down together and become aware of what we need to function at our best with a lighter heart and calmer brain. It will be our pleasure to meet you and take this journey with you.
